Program Director

This job could be ¾ time to full-time.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director will be responsible to:

  • Field all program requests that come in and consult with ED/GM to determine if they should be scheduled 
  • Be aware of specific grant stipulations and ensure that program numbers are met, working with Development Director and Grant Writers 
  • Schedule all programs assigned to the role with the facility/client contacts   
  • Gather all logistics for visit (size and age of group, location details, etc.) 
  • Monitor schedule closely so that visits aren’t scheduled too close together causing animal fatigue.   
  • Once a program is scheduled with the client, do pre-program logistics 
  • Evaluate volunteer needs and post on Shiftboard 
  • Put visit on our internal Google calendar 
  • Send out release forms to client contact and keep track and file all release forms. 
  • Coordinate horses and instructors with Webb if needed.
  • If needed check offsite location for a good place to set up and park 
  • Execute all programs assigned 
  • Create day of program schedule of pairing volunteers with animals 
  • Preparation of animals for visit.  Setting up corrals and gathering other supplies for visit.  packing up trailer/cars if offsite (if help is needed request a volunteer to help, or ask other staff members in advance) 
  • Run the program visit (ensuring another JRF staff member can cover if sick or on vacation) 
  • Clean up after program visit 
  • Complete post-program logistics 
  • Log all program demographics to the demographics on shared Google doc 
  • Send out surveys for programs that have surveys, and track survey respondents on Google doc 
  • Review survey responses for suggestions and feedback 
  • Create new programs when applicable. 
  • Look for ways to improve the impact of our programs.
  • Meet with new groups to partner with to discuss our programs 
  • Develop/reinstitute and foster relationships with “subcontract” pet therapy teams and organizations to be included in specified visits 
  • Help with Volunteer Recruitment by participating in new volunteer orientations, and ensure that Volunteers are trained and background checked 
  • Supervise Program staff and volunteers 
  • Help with animal care as needed
  • Other duties as assigned 
  • Contribute to Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter)

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Comfortable around and willing to learn about our farm animals
  • A working knowledge of horses and horsemanship is a plus. A PATH or similar certification would be desirable.
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs. A therapist, counseling or teaching background would be a plus.
  • Comfortable with the technology used to run the farm, Google calendar, word processing, volunteer scheduling software etc.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Able to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and client coordinators
  • Tact and patience with people with differences
  • Comfortable walking on uneven ground
  • Able to lift 25 pounds
